Robert Wilson, named by the New York Times as the world’s foremost avant garde theatre producer, Dimitris Pandermalis, the director of Acropolis Museum of Athens, and Thodoris Economou, internationally known composer and pianist, are at the centre of an exclusive event April 6, 2017, held in the Acropolis Museum, in the historic Makriyianni quarter.
The ruins, dating to the fifth century A.D., are the backdrop to the event, illuminated by Robert Wilson’s La Traviata light sculptures for Slamp, the same that were part of the 2016 summer installations in Chianti during Luziah Hennessey’s “ART of the Treasure Hunt”, organized this year in honour of Wilson’s Watermill Center. The Watermill Center anniversary was also celebrated in New York, where eight La Traviata prototypes were auctioned off.
Thodoris Economou opens the evening with a concert at 20:30 on the top floor in the Parthenon Gallery, providing a 360° view of the ancient temples and the Agora. Robert Wilson and Dimitris Pandermalis follow with a conversation on the apex where the importance of light in theatre and art history meet at 21:15. Wilson’s modern and poetic La Traviata, a marriage of LED technology and theatrical aesthetics, is a focus of the conversation.
